Combating Domestic Abuse

As we learn how we can be God’s hands and feet with our money, we must first know what injustices exist.  Our first topic is one many people don’t like to hear about or don’t want to hear about: domestic abuse. And who can blame them?  It’s an ugly thing to have to confront, and it’s incredibly destructive.  But it’s also really common. And wrong. And worth fighting to end.

Here are a few statistics to give you the scale of the problem.

Every minute 20 people are the victim of intimate partner violence (CDC)

The FBI “estimates violence will occur during the course of two-thirds of all marriages.” (DVIP)

1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be victims of severe violence by an intimate partner in their lifetimes. (WHO)

(Domestic Violence Statistics)

What organizations do something about this?  Lots. Some local, like shelters for women, and some national or global. Here’s an example of one such organization that combats this epidemic; this is an excerpt from their website, https://cryingoutforjustice.com/

“The purpose of this website is to

-educate people to the domestic abuser’s mentality and tactics

-teach what scripture really says about abuse, marriage, and divorce

-recommend resources for further help

-provide a safe environment for victims of domestic abuse to be encouraged, validated, and believed.”

Check them out and organizations like them. Find out more. Give as able. Get involved if you can.
